Service Description

Landscape painting for beginners and intermediate 6 lessons on Wednesday late afternoons 18th September to 23rd October 5.30 to 8.00 pm £120.00 Materials cost seperate Suitable for beginners and those with some experience. The beginners in landscape painting course will introduce methods of realism and impressionism, working with oil paint, acrylics and drawing media. The student will learn to confidently design and compose the landscape on paper and canvas, leading to paintings that have a strong sense of depth, space, atmosphere and colour. The initial sessions will focus on learning how to compose and design the landscape on paper in charcoal. Looking at proportion and perspective, the effect of light and shadow and how this creates a sense of depth. We’ll work from photographs and study master paintings. There will be an emphasis on achieving a likeness of the landscape, observing the seasons and different times of day to create different moods in painting. We’ll look at both rural and urban landscapes. Following this we’ll move on to and in depth colour theory for landscapes, learning at first how to mix colours using a limited palette of ultramarine blue, burnt umber, Cadmium Red, Burnt Sienna, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Yellow and Titanium White. A study of a master artist will then be completed to further develop our understanding of mixing colour and designing the landscape. Following this different colour palettes will be explored. The final sessions will focus on our own individual Landscape of a subject of our choice, to introduce personal vision, expression and narrative.
