Getting Your Story Out There is a practical workshop for local businesses looking to increase their profile through effective media coverage. Led by experienced media consultant Leo Devine, this session will explain how newsrooms work, what journalists look for in a story, and how businesses can position themselves to get noticed. Participants will learn how to identify the right audience for their stories, write compelling press releases, and understand what goes into crafting a newsworthy story. The workshop will draw on Leo's 38 years of experience in TV, radio, and digital media to give participants insider knowledge and practical tips they can apply immediately. This workshop is designed for local artists, creatives and freelancers who want to improve their media presence. It is suitable for anyone looking to get coverage in local news, whether they are new to PR or want to sharpen their existing skills. No prior media experience is required. Help participants understand how traditional and multimedia newsrooms operate: - Teach what journalists look for in a story - Explain how to identify and target the right audience for a story - Provide practical guidance on writing effective press releases - Build confidence in engaging with local media outlets Please bring a notebook and pen for notes and exercises. This is an interactive workshop where participants will be encouraged to share ideas and ask questions in a supportive environment. Please arrive 10 minutes early to allow for a prompt start. As a former Managing Editor and journalist, Leo has a deep understanding of what makes newsrooms work. He now helps businesses and organisations improve their media strategies while continuing to work on managerial projects for the BBC.
