Service Description

Foundations of Drawing and Painting 6 lessons on Monday afternoons 15th September to 20th October 2025 @5:30 to 8:30pm £130.00 Suitable for beginners and absolute beginners The course will cover still life, portrait, landscape and the fundamentals of drawing and painting from life. You will be given step by step instructions in a wide range of drawing and painting techniques. You will start by exploring basic drawing techniques from reference to still life objects, gradually introducing tone and colour to create a still life painting. Portraiture will focus on proportions of the face in charcoal, and colour theory will be explored within the landscape. Individual interpretation and reinvention of the subject will be encouraged during the sessions as progression is made. By the end of the course participants will have a better knowledge of drawing and painting techniques and a growing sense of their individual style and strengths in preparation for further development. Objectives of the Course How to observe and represent as a visual artist. Complete solid drawings with likeness and accuracy. Basic grasp of materials. Confidence to move on further in drawing and painting. Materials and Equipment All drawing materials provided as well as basic acrylic paints and brushes, but a more specific list of materials that participants will need to bring will be given on the first session. Students will need 2 canvases to paint on in week 4 and 5. ABOUT THE ARTIST TUTOR, LUKE THOMPSON: 'For the past 6 years, Luke has regularly taught the fundamentals of drawing and painting at many locations including The Art House Wakefield, The Tetley Leeds, Harewood House, and Left Bank. He also works as a freelance tutor at A level for schools and colleges working with the New Collaborative learning Trust. Demos and workshops have also coincided with exhibitions which have included The Great Yorkshire Show, Leeds Art Gallery and Saltaire Art Gallery.'

Cancellations, refunds and exchanges: If you cancel your course or class 14 clear days or more before the start date, you will receive a full refund. If you cancel your course or class less than 14 clear days before the start date, refunds will be given at the discretion of Craven Arts. No refunds or partial refunds will be given once the course has started. Craven Arts reserves the right to make alterations to the published details course as necessary and/or cancel the course. In the event that the course has to be cancelled or rescheduled, we will attempt to contact you with as much notice as possible and you will receive a full refund. Craven Arts cannot take responsibility for any of your travel and other costs and/or expenses associated with your attendance or planned attendance of the course (including in the event of changes or cancellation by the Craven Arts). You cannot resell or transfer your place at the course or class without the Craven Arts consent.
