Starts 13 Sept
25 British pounds
Craven Art House

Available spots

Service Description

Join Skipton-based textile artist Ellie Taylor at Craven Arts House for a tactile, thought-provoking workshop exploring clay, stitch, and creative response. The session opens with a brief introduction to the Gathered Threads Exhibition, the Progression theme, and the overarching project—providing valuable context and creative insight to frame the workshop’s focus. You’ll then get hands-on with unfired clay—first by making your own pinch pot, then editing a pre-prepped vessel to explore form and texture. Inspired by the pots, you’ll be guided through mark-making and stitching directly onto clay surfaces, as well as engaging in paper-based collage and creative drawing. These intuitive activities allow space for play, narrative, and personal expression. Who it’s for: This workshop is aimed at adults, though children aged 14+ may attend if accompanied by an adult. No prior experience needed—just curiosity and a willingness to explore materials. Materials provided: Unfired clay (fresh and drier), drawing tools, mini sketchbooks, threads, needles, mark-making tools, cotton, boards, boxes, and prepped pots. Optional extras to bring: Threads, yarns or fibres Small objects (e.g. twig, feather, Lego brick) Apron or clothes suitable for working with clay Please note: The clay vessels made are not suitable for firing, and while Ellie is not a ceramics tutor, this workshop uses clay as a creative starting point. Expect a little clay dust—dress accordingly! Let the textures guide your storytelling as we stitch, shape, and collage our way through creative progression.
