Service Description
In celebration of the Vision and Verse Exhibition we are hosting an open mic night to provide an opportunity for you to read/perform your creative writing (poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, monologue, songs) to a supportive audience, to develop your writing and performance skills, and receive supportive feedback. Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience or ability—we’d love to hear your voice. Please bring a written piece that can be shared in up to 5 minutes. Spaces are limited to 15 participants, so be sure to book early to secure your spot. £3.50 booking fee includes a free drink on arrival. Take your work to the next level, develop your confidence to read/ perform your poetry, prose, creative non-fiction, monologues, or songs in public, and receive feedback. Feedback from previous Open Mic events: 'A fun night with like-minded writers. I was very nervous but feel so much more confident now I have exposed my secret writing to the public!' (Writer, Armargh Literary festival open mic, 2023) 'Never thought I'd do this but reading my poem about Emily Bronte for the first time to other people really gave me a buzz.' (Writer, 'Celebrating Emily', Keighley library 2018) 'Loved the friendly vibe and even read my story. Fantastic evening!' (Writer, Open mic Anthony Burgess Foundation, Manchester) Dr Nicola Hill worked for many as a Creative writing lecturer for the Open University, teaching both undergraduates and graduates. She has published novels and short stories and has a PhD in Creative Writing as well as an MA in CW from Manchester Metropolitan University and a BA in Fine Art from Leeds (Polytechnic). She is passionate about encouraging new and experienced writers to share their work and has run outreach sessions and open mic evenings with schools, community centres, universities, the Visual Impairment team in Calderdale as well as at literary festivals and local libraries.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations, refunds and exchanges: If you cancel your course or class 14 clear days or more before the start date, you will receive a full refund. If you cancel your course or class less than 14 clear days before the start date, refunds will be given at the discretion of Craven Arts. No refunds or partial refunds will be given once the course has started. Craven Arts reserves the right to make alterations to the published details course as necessary and/or cancel the course. In the event that the course has to be cancelled or rescheduled, we will attempt to contact you with as much notice as possible and you will receive a full refund. Craven Arts cannot take responsibility for any of your travel and other costs and/or expenses associated with your attendance or planned attendance of the course (including in the event of changes or cancellation by the Craven Arts). You cannot resell or transfer your place at the course or class without the Craven Arts consent.
