With Zoe Platt Single Session Saturday 11th April 2026 10am - 1pm

Service Description
This workshop will introduce you to cyanotypes – the original “blue print” (also known as “sun prints”) that creates striking blue and white prints. Dubbed 'alternative photography,' it is not seen as a traditional photographic process – especially nowadays where we rely on digital cameras and digital imagery. It is a beautifully simple, hands-on process with endless possibilities. Cyanotypes is an immediate, rewarding technique that can feel like magic unfolding before your eyes! During the workshop you’ll be taken through the process, some history and examples to illustrate its potential; then spend about 2 hours experimenting to make approximately 10 prints of various sizes. This stage is like "free play," where you’re encouraged to explore objects, compositions and ideas of your own, with tutor support for tips, tricks and troubleshooting. We’ll end with a short bookmaking session, spending about 30 minutes transforming one of your prints into a hand-stitched book. All equipment and materials are provided, but you’re invited to bring pressed flowers or fresh cuttings of your own. Cyanotypes is a very accessible process, and this workshop is suitable for all ages, abilities and interests. Under 18s or vulnerable adults must be accompanied by a fully-paying responsible adult. About your tutor: This workshop is run by Zoe Platt – founder of Short & Few, artist educator and graphics practitioner. With a background in graphic design and typography, her practice has become more process-driven, with a hands-on and analogue approach to image-making. With over a decade of teaching experience in college-level art and design, as well as TEFL for summer camps (including a stint in China!), her teaching taps into a broad range of subjects including sculpture, surface pattern, photography and creative writing. She is at her best when teaching and making – whether books or prints – and supporting others to find their creative selves. Feedback: "Zoe's passion for the cyanotype process truly shines through, and she made the entire session feel approachable and hands-on, welcoming all skill levels. Her relaxed, friendly teaching style allowed participants to explore the art form creatively, and she was there every step of the way to offer tips and insights."
