Starts 9 May

Service Description

Experimenting with handwriting, concealing/highlighting text, and collage. We’ll be starting with our own handwriting then exaggerating it. We’ll move on to editing vintage book pages and creating collage using paint and optional embroidery to erase or embellish words. Suitable for any level. Time and space to enjoy playing with text! There should be opportunity to complete at least one collage arrangement during the class. Basic materials will be provided, including water-based paint, paper, scissors, glue, writing implements, needles & thread. Feel free to bring your own as well, especially if you have a preferred colour palette. You may wish to wear an apron, although it isn’t expected to be a messy class. About your tutor: Ellie Taylor is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice is rooted in the quiet, meticulous craft of hand‑stitched textiles. Her work embraces the intimacy and slowness of needle and thread, exploring texture, repetition, and the expressive potential of fabric. Ellie’s textile pieces often carry a narrative quality—subtle, layered, and emotionally resonant—reflecting her interest in storytelling through materiality. Alongside her visual art practice, Ellie is also a writer. She has previously had two short plays performed, and although she describes her writing as “sporadic,” it continues to inform and enrich her creative approach. This blend of disciplines gives her work a distinctive voice: thoughtful, tactile, and grounded in both craft and narrative. As a tutor, Ellie brings this breadth of experience to the classroom, encouraging students to explore process, patience, and personal expression in their own work. Her guidance supports learners in developing confidence with materials while also opening space for experimentation and creative curiosity.
