Service Description

Want to feel more confident sketching people on location? This practical, supportive workshop is designed to help you overcome nerves, improve your skills, and start sketching regularly in real‑world settings. Learning to sketch on location can feel daunting at first. With Amanda’s expert and encouraging guidance, you’ll quickly build confidence and learn how to approach people sketching with ease. Amanda will introduce her favourite materials and share her clear, practical approach to capturing people in a variety of situations. With a small group of just 8 participants, you’ll receive plenty of hands‑on guidance. Carefully chosen locations around Skipton ensure a comfortable and productive sketching experience. Who Is This Workshop For? This workshop is an ideal follow‑up to Amanda’s popular The Art of Sketching People. However, you don’t need to have attended—if you’re keen to start sketching people on location, you’re very welcome. Sketching people takes practice, and this workshop is designed to get you started, motivated, and confident enough to go out and give it a go. Where to start and how to set the scene Creating quick, lively sketches Improving observation and knowing what to leave out Colour basics and understanding tone Completing several quick sketches and a simple scene with figures What to Bring A5 or A4 sketchbook with good‑quality cartridge paper (some available to buy on the day) Enclosed pencil sharpener (recommended: Jakar) Pencil case with 2B and 4B pencils, plus hard and putty rubbers Any additional materials you’d like advice on using What’s Provided A small selection of watercolour pencils A water brush pen Testimonials ‘Wonderful day, absolutely loved it. Please bring a small rucksack for materials, a lightweight fold‑out stool, and dress for the weather. Bring water and a packed lunch, or you can purchase food during the lunch break.



Cancellation Policy

Cancellations, refunds and exchanges: If you cancel your course or class 14 clear days or more before the start date, you will receive a full refund. If you cancel your course or class less than 14 clear days before the start date, refunds will be given at the discretion of Craven Arts. No refunds or partial refunds will be given once the course has started. Craven Arts reserves the right to make alterations to the published details course as necessary and/or cancel the course. In the event that the course has to be cancelled or rescheduled, we will attempt to contact you with as much notice as possible and you will receive a full refund. Craven Arts cannot take responsibility for any of your travel and other costs and/or expenses associated with your attendance or planned attendance of the course (including in the event of changes or cancellation by the Craven Arts). You cannot resell or transfer your place at the course or class without the Craven Arts consent.
