When Words Fail

They say a picture paints a thousand words—but what happens when words don’t work at all?

When Words Fail began with a stutter and grew into an exhibition that celebrates communication through art. Bringing together nearly 30 artists, the exhibition explores the many ways ideas, emotions and experiences can be expressed visually when language falls short.

Despite the diversity of concepts on display, each artwork shares a common thread: a love of speaking through art. From works that celebrate beauty, to pieces that evoke emotion or explore alternative forms of communication such as music, the exhibition invites visitors to slow down, look closely, and listen in new ways.

Visitors are also encouraged to take part. A word‑finding trail runs throughout the exhibition—complete it, and you’ll be invited to add an emoji or small drawing to the evolving front window display, becoming part of the conversation yourself.

When Words Fail is an invitation to experience art as a universal language—open, expressive, and wonderfully human.

The work spans multiple mediums, from paintings, drawings, photography and textiles, to sculptural and 3D pieces, to book art including zines.

The exhibition will run Thursday–Sunday, 11am–4pm, until Sunday 24th May 2026.
