Making art is hard enough. Whether your challenge is mastering techniques, finding time to create, overcoming self-doubt, or simply facing the blank canvas, you've already invested a huge amount of yourself in your work. Then comes another challenge: explaining it to someone else. For many artists, that's the difficult part. Not because every painting has a hidden meaning, but because the reasons we make the work we make are often instinctive. Sometimes they're deeply personal. Sometimes they're wonderfully simple. Whatever drives your work, it isn't "just" anything. It reflects something you value. This workshop will help you uncover those values, understand why they matter to the people who love your work, and identify the audience most likely to connect with it.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the values and ideas that drive your art and make it meaningful.

  • Identify the people most likely to connect with and value your work.

  • Discover practical ways to find and reach those people.

  • Create a repeatable approach for building relationships with potential collectors and supporters.

  • Develop a clear, authentic message that helps people understand why your art matters.

  • Leave with a personalised plan and next steps for connecting with your audience.

Before the workshop, you'll complete a short online exercise to begin exploring the values behind your art. During our time together, we'll share discoveries, refine who your work is really for, and research where those people already spend their time. We'll also explore how AI can be used as a research assistant to speed up this process, although using it is entirely optional.

After the workshop, you'll have a one-to-one Zoom session where we'll develop a clear, authentic way of talking about your work that feels true to you and makes it easier for the right people to recognise why it resonates with them.
